May 5th, 2016 – First draft complete.

I started this book back in October of 2014! It has taken me me one year, seven months, and 106,342 words to get it all done. I think I’m still in shock that I’ve actually completed it. Writing this story has been quite the journey and there were times I wondered if  I’d ever finish it.

But I did. I fucking finished it!

If there’s a book you really want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.”  – Toni Morrison.

This was the quote that inspired me to write this particular story.

For years, I’d avoided writing in the fantasy genre – despite it being my favourite genre to read. Fear that I wouldn’t do the genre justice kept me from it. Instead I tried writing a crime book, a romance, and a sci-fi story. None of which stuck.

I loved writing, I just didn’t love what I was writing. Then one day, while looking up quotes I stumbled upon the above gem.

Two weeks later, I’d started outlining ‘Flame in the Wind’ book one in my fantasy series.

Finishing a first draft is simply the initial step. The ladder to publication is very tall and filled with many rungs. With excitement and anticipation, I’m looking forward to the climb.

Congratulations, Sam! You must feel so wonderful right now. Enjoy this feeling, bask in it, celebrate it, for finishing a draft is a meaningful accomplishment.

      THANK YOU!

Honestly, I’m still in shock, I’ve yet to celebrate lol. I’m going to let it sit for three weeks, then go back over it with fresh eyes and begin my editing.
